About the Event
What is forensic science?
Forensic science is the use of various scientific methods to search for and study evidence, in order to find out hidden messages to assist the crime investigation authorities in tracing and inferring the truth of the cases. With advancements in technology, the crime scene investigators also apply different technologies in forensic identification, such as deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) inspection, fingerprint analysis, bloodstain pattern analysis, clothing fiber analysis and toxicity analysis. Through careful observation, classification, comparison and analysis of data, a reasonable conclusion could be inferred and submitted to the court for consideration.
Purpose of the Competition
The Competition aims at increasing the interest of primary and secondary students in science and technology. The participating students will play the role of crime scene investigators in collecting evidence at a simulated crime scene. Through the use of scientific inquiry skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the students will work together as a team to solve the mysteries with rigorous process and analysis.
